Roosevelt Activities Info

RHS provides a wide variety of student activities and organizations, curricular and extra-curricular, available to all RHS students. The more the merrier, so don’t be shy; join one of the many fun and exciting groups here at Roosevelt today!

For further information, students should see the Activities Coordinator in Room 109 or the faculty member listed as the advisor. Remember that you must purchase an ASB card to be eligible to participate in these activities. Money raised from ASB cards goes to support these programs.

Performing Arts

Roosevelt has a long and rich tradition in the performing arts, both music and drama. Be sure to also check out the websites for these groups under “Arts” in the menu at the left.

  • Drama-Fest: A week long series of one-act plays cast and directed by the Advanced Drama students. After school each day two to three plays are performed and judged by a panel. The last day concludes with the Best of Fest where the top three plays as voted on by the panel, are performed again in the evening. Usually performed in November.
  • Musical : Open to any student by audition during first semester, taken as a class second semester, with performance in late May.
  • Marching Band: Marches at football games, parades and special events. Also performs as a concert band for concerts and assemblies.
  • Jazz Band: Performs at various competitions and school concerts. Open to any experienced musician by audition.
  • Concert Orchestra: Concert Orchestra is a class for all 9th grade students. Students in this group, as well as all other groups, may form chamber groups and prepare pieces to perform at the chamber recitals and/or the Solo & Ensemble Contest. No audition required.
  • Chamber Orchestra: Chamber Orchestra is a class for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Students must be proficient in all positions up to 5th position on their instrument and audition to join. This class will focus on string and chamber orchestra literature. Students will be expected to perform in several chamber music concerts throughout the year and perform in regular concert programs. No audition required.
  • Symphony Orchestra: Symphony Orchestra combines wind and string instruments and is available to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Admission to this class is by audition only in June.  This is a high level music class where students will be expected to excel.  Performance in the full orchestra, string or wind chamber ensembles is required.  String students will play some string chamber music. Wind instruments may also play in the Wind Ensemble.
  • Choir: Concert and Advanced Treble – Performs a varied repertoire from classical masterworks to a cappella pop at school concerts and festivals.

Spirit Squads

  • Cheerleaders: students dedicated to cheering on their athletic teams. Tryouts are in the spring for the following year. Open to sophomore, juniors and seniors.
