I've been teaching US History in various forms (AP, General and Ethnic Studies) at Roosevelt since 2006. I have been teaching Health since 2015. I love to mix travel and learning. In I have been a part of the Hands for a Bridge program since 2008, leading several student trips to Northern Ireland and South Africa where I have had the opportunity to develop friendships with teachers and learn from each community. In 2016, I spent the summer in India on a Fulbright-Hays Program studying sustainability and social change. I traveled to the Mississippi Delta through the National Endowment for the Humanities to study culture and Civil Rights in 2017. I earned my BA in History and Teaching Certificate at Western and my Masters in Literacy and Health/Fitness endorsement at SPU.

Maggie Mattmiller

Maggie Mattmiller dual majored in Deaf Education and Special Education at Ball State University and received a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Washington. Originally from Ohio, her first teaching job was teaching American Sign Language in a high school as a world language teacher. After moving to Seattle, she joined Seattle Public Schools where she has been for 10 years, serving as an instructional assistant, a special education teacher and in multiple central office capacities. Most recently, she has been a Professional Growth and Educator Support consulting teacher coaching new-to-profession special education teachers. She has worked in classrooms prek-12th grade and is excited to be returning to high school. She is an avid reader, looking forward to getting book recommendations from students, staff, and families, so please share your favorites!  Ms. Mattmiller will be serving students with last names starting with the letters Nor – Z.

I am a Washington native, having grown up in Bothell. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a degree in Spanish and Education. I received a Masters In Education through City University. I have been teaching Spanish at Roosevelt since 2000. I enjoy hiking, skiing and camping with my son and husband, attending concerts, hanging out with friends and family, and speaking Spanish of course!

Personal Message

Choral conductor Aimee Mell has a passion for connecting people, cultures, and ideas through music. Since 2019 she has led the relaunch of choirs at Lincoln High School. In 2013 she started the McClure MS choral program which has grown exponentially. A director of middle and high school choirs for over fifteen years in both public and private schools, she has also worked with select youth and adult community choirs. Her choirs have performed on NW Focus Live at 98.1 Classical King FM, and headlined regional festivals.

In 2019, Ms. Mell was selected as one of five American conducting fellows to travel to South Africa through the American Choral Directors Association International Conductors Exchange Program. As a part of the exchanges she worked with college, high school, and community choirs throughout Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Community involvement includes serving on boards for: Washington State ACDA (American Choral Directors Association), the Elliott Bay Music Educators Association, and the Tacoma Arts Commission. In 2020, Ms. Mell was appointed to the Seattle Opera Board of Trustees.

She enjoys spending time with her husband and Airedale Terrier Khaleesi, exploring the great Northwest, and travelling internationally.

Roy Merca

Roy Merca has been an Assistant Principal at Roosevelt HS for 5 years.  Mr. Merca is a product of the Seattle Public Schools as he attended Graham Hill Elementary, Sharples Jr. HS and graduated from Franklin HS.  He got his bachelor’s in education at Eastern Washington University majoring in physical education with a minor in health and received a master’s degree in administration from Western Washington University. He taught physical education and health before going into administration. Mr. Merca was an Assistant Principal and Principal at Summit K-12, Pinehurst K-8, and Licton Springs K-8 before joining the Roosevelt administration team.  Mr. Merca was the tennis coach here at Roosevelt HS in the early 90’s. His hobbies include playing golf, pickleball, walking his dog on trails, and following all Seattle sports teams.  Mr. Merca will be serving students with last names starting with letters A-Gil.

After graduating from Western Washington University with a B.S. in Mathematics and then completing a masters in teaching, I began teaching at Roosevelt in 2001. I have taught all levels of math and I truly enjoy helping students find success in this challenging topic. Outside of school I love spending time with my kids and riding bikes of all shapes and sizes.

Madame Mischke is originally from Independence, KY but also lived in Paris and Normandy before moving to Seattle. Her favorite hobbies are baking, paddle boarding, weightlifting, and reading. She also loves to knit and crochet while re-watching her favorite shows.
