This is a special edition to announce two job opportunities: While we were not planning to produce another newsletter this late in the year, two job opportunities came across our desk that we think Roosevelt students would love to have.

Team Read is now hiring current SPS 9th-11th graders now until July 7 to be after-school reading coaches 2 days a week during the 2023-24 school year.

Role: Teen reading coaches are paired with SPS 2nd – 4th grade growing readers at a nearby elementary school site where they practice literacy games, reading fluency, & comprehension

Time commitment: either in-person for 80 minutes or online on Zoom for 130 minutes, two afternoons each week (Mostly Tu/Th with a few M/W sites, between 4-6:30 p.m.).

There is no coaching during Seattle Public Schools holidays & breaks. Applicants can choose to commit to working the school year (Oct-May), semester 1 (Oct-Feb), or semester 2 (Feb-May).

Pay: $18.69/hr or service learning hours, plus training to be an effective tutor

Graduation Credit: Earn up to 1.0 CTE credit toward graduation for hours worked

Global nonprofit opening cafe in U District, seeking baristas

Konbit Cafe, part of the Kay Tita global nonprofit organization, is currently hiring for part-time barista positions to work in their U District shop opening soon.

Kay Tita is an integrity-driven social enterprise that is dedicated to connecting resources, access, and opportunities to fuel the dreams and aspirations of historically under-resourced communities.

Konbit Cafe is their Haitian Specialty Coffee window-service cafe featuring coffee sourced from farmer friends in the northern hills of Dondon, Haiti. Every purchase in the cafe will directly support Haitian community development.

They are specifically looking for people with flexible schedules who are available to work 8 – 20 hours per week and can work on Saturdays.
