DAILY BULLETIN

Summary: Daily news bulletin about what's happening at Roosevelt

Thursday, September 26th, 2024

General Announcements:

  • The Homecoming Assembly will be tomorrow at 9:45am.
  • Roosevelt Volleyball’s Dig Pink Night is next Wednesday, October 2rd! This special tradition, held by volleyball teams nationwide, raises money for cancer research. At Roosevelt, it’s even more meaningful as we dedicate it to one of our own. RHS Volleyball raises funds for the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center in honor (and in the name) of junior and JV volleyball player Kolbi Sievers. Kolbi was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 7th grade, and after many rounds of chemotherapy, we’re thrilled to celebrate her being cancer-free and in remission for 3 years.

Event Details:

Start Time: The event kicks off at 5:30 PM during the sub-varsity matches and continues through the second set of the varsity match, which starts at 7 PM.

Event Highlights: Dig Pink Night will feature a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle, and lots of pink!

Proceeds: All proceeds from the event, including shirt sales and auction/raffle earnings, will go to Fred Hutch. If you can’t make it in person, you can donate directly to Fred Hutch; it all goes to the same Dig Pink collection pool!  http://engage.fredhutch.org/goto/Dig-Pink

Last year we raised over $5,000 in one night! We want to. continue to grow that number!  We hope you’ll join us for an evening of volleyball, fundraising, and community spirit as we come together to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

  • Hey Riders! Check out the Green and Gold exchange student store, open every day after school except Fridays and we will be open during curriculum night too. You can explore our delicious snacks and drinks while checking out our newest item- green and gold overalls- just in time for spirit week. See you there!
  • Homecoming spirit week is this week and the theme is the Wizard of Oz:

Thursday: We’re not in Kansas anymore – country day

Friday: Emerald City down the Yellow Brick Road – Green & Gold day!

  • Hey Riders! Beginning Today, look out for Dorothy’s red slippers hidden around the school. Students who find the slippers win spirit points for their grade, note the slippers must have your name written on the back.  Slipper finders also have the chance to PIE A TEACHER at the Homecoming Assembly if they are drawn from spirit boxes.
  • SPIRIT POINTS are back at RHS!  Riders will have the opportunity to win a grade-wide pizza party when they submit spirit items to their grade boxes outside the ASR room.  Students can also DM @rhs_asr on Instagram with pictures of them on theme this spirit week to win.
  • Homecoming tickets are on sale from the concession stand at lunch and on-line. Ticket prices are $40 (ASB) or $45 (no ASB).

Congratulations:

The Roosevelt golf team battled the Mother Nature and Garfield bulldogs yesterday and beat both of them convincingly.  The boys won by 46 strokes and were led by Quinn, Caelan and Carson who each shot under par.  The girls won by 53 strokes and were led by Reese and Emerson. Next match is Friday vs Ingraham! We Are Subpar!

Boys RHS water polo team scores from last night’s game VS. Bellevue:

Varsity over Bellevue 22-11.

JV over Bellevue 10-3.

Next game is AWAY on Monday Sept 30th

Make the short drive to Innis Arden Swim Club (outdoor pool) and cheer on the Roosevelt Boys water polo team as they take on Shorewood High School!

Congratulations to the 125 students who tried out for Dramafest or applied for Run Crew! Actors: cast lists are now posted on the Dramafest bulletin board in the Theatre Hallway.  All actors and run crew attend the Dramafest Kickoff TODAY after school starting in the Theater where we’ll have snacks, play some games, and more.  Parents are invited at 5:30 to learn about Dramafest and see a preview!

Congratulations to Roosevelt’s 2025 National Merit Semi-Finalist Matthew West, and our 2025 National Merit Commended Scholars Isaac Belina, Cassia Colombara, Anthony Fues, Rennen Kaminski-Willard, Elena Krentz, Solo0mon Lucero, Macie Runions, and Julia Waltar. These students are all being recognized for their outstanding performance on the qualifying PSAT test and are among the top 50,000 highest scorers nationwide. Welcome back to the RHS Library Roughriders!! We have some new things going on:

Well, every Monday the Roosevelt Library will be not just quiet, but it’ll be SILENT!

  • Word Of The Month- Come down to the library to see what word is posted! If you can pronounce it, and tell a short story, sing a jingle, tell a lie, speak a sentence, interpret a dance… In your own way, prove that you know what the word means and can use it productively, WIN A PRIZE!
