SAT and PSAT/NMSQT Testing Info

School Day PSAT/NMSQT for 11th Graders is October 22 and School Day SAT for 12th Graders is October 24th!

Testing will begin at 8:50 a.m. with check-in starting at 8:45 at testing rooms. Testing Room Assignments will be posted on Monday October 21st by the main entrance and by the large Gym. All 11th graders and 12th graders have been automatically registered for the tests, but if you know that you do not plan to take it you can email Ms. Jermann at anjermann@seattleschools.org to let her know.

On testing day bring with you your SPS issued laptop and charger. Please make sure you have already installed the Bluebook testing app (if you haven’t yet, you can find it in Software Center on your computer). This will be done in 11th & 12th grade Language Arts classes the week of October 14th.

Be sure to bring:

  • Photo ID (school, state, or other government photo id)
  • A pencil with an eraser
  • An approved calculator, see an approved list
  • Epinephrine auto-injectors (like EpiPens) are permitted without the need for accommodations. They must be placed in a clear bag and stored under the student’s desk during testing. For policies on other medications and medical devices, contact Services for Students with Disabilities.

Nice to have:

  • A watch (without an audible alarm)
  • Extra batteries and backup equipment—you’ll have to ask for permission to access them. They can’t be on your desk during the test.
  • A bag or backpack
  • A drink or snacks (for your break)

Don’t bring:

  • The following devices and aids aren’t allowed in the test center: Mobile phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers, or other wearable technology.

We encourage students to take these exams for the following reasons:

  • The PSAT is one of the best ways to effectively prepare for the SAT.
  • Detailed results from the PSAT via the College Board can be used to prepare for the SAT.
  • The College Board and Khan Academy are aligned to provide free tutorials based on specific results from the PSAT.
  • Many college-bound students take the SAT later in Junior year or in the fall of senior year – Fall results from the SAT senior year can be used for college admission purposes.
  • PSAT and SAT are good practice for AP exams because the College Board testing format is similar.
  • SAT test scores can be used to meet the State Grad Pathway

Testing will take place in the morning and takes 3 hours and 15 minutes followed by lunch. On Tuesday class periods 1, 2 and 3 will be take place. Then on Thursday, after testing class periods 4, 5 and 6 will take place. Please refer to the Roosevelt web site for the altered bell schedule.
