Leadership Update

Dear Roosevelt High School Community,

After a thoughtful and inclusive selection process involving staff, students, and families, I am pleased to announce that Ms. Ambyr Burrell has been selected as the new principal of Roosevelt High School.

The selection committee recommended Ms. Burrell for her compelling vision aligned to Roosevelt’s values, her strong instructional and systems leadership, and her demonstrated ability to partner with school communities to advance shared goals. Central to her leadership is a deep commitment to student experience and success.

Ms. Burrell currently serves as Assistant Principal at Nathan Hale High School, where she has supported instructional improvement, staff development, and student-centered systems.

Previously, she served as a secondary English Language Arts instructional coach in the Mukilteo School District, as an English teacher at Mariner High School, and as an Assistant Principal at Harbour Pointe Middle School, gaining extensive experience in secondary leadership, equity-focused practices, and collaborative school improvement.

Ms. Burrell holds a Master’s in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts from Seattle University and University of Washington, respectively, and has earned her program and principal certifications from the University of Washington.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Acting Principal Ivory Brooks for his steady and thoughtful leadership during the 2025–26 school year, and for his continued commitment to the Roosevelt High School community.

Ms. Burrell is committed to building on the strong foundation and proud traditions of Roosevelt High School and is eager to partner with students, staff, families, and community members in support of every student’s success.

While her official start date is July 1, 2026, we will share opportunities for staff and families to connect with Ms. Burrell prior to the end of the school year.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Burrell to the Roosevelt High School community.

Sincerely,

Ben Shuldiner
Superintendent
