Testing
For questions regarding testing Roosevelt High School students, please contact:
Taylor Rainwater, tjrainwater@seattleschools.org.
- Dates TBD
- WCAS is intended for All Juniors–If you are in Running Start, please reach out to tjrainwater@seattleschools.org for a testing assignment.
- WCAS scores may act as a credit for a lower level (9th or 10th grade) science class, and meet a graduation requirement.
State assessments are required for federal accountability and also provide a common measure of student progress at the school, district, and state levels. Our educators examine the results and use them to help determine which resources and supports are needed to close achievement gaps.
Dates TBD
SBA is intended for Sophomores, and any Junior or Senior who did not pass previously. For more information, or if you are an upper classmen needing to test, please reach out to Taylor Rainwater tjrainwater@seattleschools.org.
SAT scores are one tool used to demonstrate college and career readiness and can fulfill state graduation pathways with a minimum cut score. PSAT/NMSTQ is an opportunity for students to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program and other scholarships. The PSAT/NMSTQ also provides valuable feedback on strengths and skills necessary for college study and helps prepare students for the SAT.
Juniors and Seniors will be testing with the PSAT and SAT. Be sure to check out the College Board’s Free SAT Prep
School-Day SAT for Roosevelt High School seniors.
SAT Testing Dates
Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23, 2026
Make-up date: Monday, October 26, 2026
All Roosevelt High School seniors will be given the opportunity to take the SAT during the October testing window. The School-Day SAT is provided free of charge to Seattle Public Schools students.
Why Take the SAT?
The SAT is one tool students may use to demonstrate college and career readiness. There are several benefits to taking the School-Day SAT:
- No cost: The School-Day SAT is free for SPS students.
- College admissions: Students may choose to send their SAT scores to colleges and scholarship programs.
- Graduation pathway: A qualifying SAT score may be used to fulfill the Washington State graduation pathway requirement for ELA and/or mathematics.
- College and career readiness: The SAT provides students with information about their current academic skills and readiness for postsecondary opportunities.
- Convenient testing opportunity: Students can take the SAT at Roosevelt during the regular school day rather than needing to travel to an outside testing location.
What Students Should Know
The SAT is a digital assessment administered through College Board’s Bluebook testing application.
Students should:
- Bring their Seattle Public Schools-issued laptop fully charged on their testing day.
- Make sure they know their College Board login information.
- Get a good night’s sleep before testing.
- Eat breakfast before arriving at school.
- Arrive at school on time and follow the testing schedule provided by Roosevelt.
Students who require College Board-approved testing accommodations should make sure they have communicated with the appropriate Roosevelt staff before the testing window.
SAT Preparation
Students do not need to purchase a test-preparation program to prepare for the SAT. College Board provides free SAT preparation resources, including practice questions and full-length digital practice tests.
Students can also use Khan Academy’s free Official SAT Practice to work on skills identified through their College Board results.
SAT and Graduation Requirements
A qualifying SAT score may be used as one option for meeting Washington State’s graduation pathway requirement. Students and families should speak with their counselor if they have questions about whether they have met their individual graduation pathway requirements.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
Students in AP courses might earn college credit and/or advanced placement in college if they perform well on AP exams given in May and if their college of choice accepts the AP exam for credit. College credit is not guaranteed but rather is determined by each individual college upon the student’s enrollment in that college.
AP courses at Roosevelt High School prepare students for these exams, students must pay a fee for AP exams. Students should see the Roosevelt High School Academic Intervention Specialist/Testing Coordinator if they need fee assistance. AP offerings may vary from year to year depending on student interest and staffing. Prerequisites for AP courses are outlined in the course descriptions in the Course Descriptions book on the Course Registration page. See: Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
Update: September ‘26
AP Exam Payments are Live!
If your student is taking an AP class this year and they are certain that they want to take the test, they should have said “YES” to taking the test on their AP Classroom page.
They do not have to make a final decision yet. They can choose:
- I intend to take the exam
- I do not intend to take the exam
- Undecided
*Waiting to pay for the exam until after the deadline may result in a late fee.*
Where To Pay?
- AP Exam Only No Class (and payment plans)
- AP Exam FRL (reduced fee for those who qualify)
- AP Exams (Regular class enrollment)
If you have questions about a payment plan or reduced fee, please reach out to Mr. Rainwater tjrainwater@seattleschools.org
