Prospective and Returning Roosevelt Football Players and Families,

My personal mission statement, "To use all of my God-given abilities and talents to help young people achieve success."

First off, thank you so much for making the decision to be involved in one of the most amazing team sports. I truly believe that football has the power to create better young men built for others. Football has the ability to build better sons, brothers, and fathers. I am extremely honored and excited to be the head coach at Roosevelt High School. By joining the Roosevelt football program, you have made a decision that could positively impact the rest of your life.

You have chosen to push yourself to be a more complete human being. Football will help instill determination, perseverance, accountability, unselfishness and humility. You are joining a group of people determined to help one another become better in everything we do. The entire coaching staff thanks you for taking this first step in becoming a Roosevelt Rough Rider. As a Rough Rider you will learn to live by three rules: 1. Team First, 2. Always Compete and 3. NO EXCUSES!

Many of our athletes have been spending the off-season playing other sports and working out to prepare for the upcoming fall season and the opportunity is still available. The Weight Room is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3:55 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please, it is never too late to come and join the process of preparing for the next football season.

For those of you entering your freshmen year of high school, there is no perfect time to begin playing football. Most students coming to Roosevelt have had little football experience. The 9th grade team learns the fundamentals of football which become the foundation for great Roosevelt teams in the future. In addition, football players get a head start on meeting other students and building friendships before class begins. For many 9th graders, this experience helps to start high school off in a positive way and establish a passion for this fantastic game.

Our first formal meeting will be after school on May 23rd starting at 4:30 p.m., when we have our All-Comers Spring Combine and football parent informational barbecue on the quad. We encourage any students interested in playing football, regardless of experience and perceived ability, to attend this one-day introduction to the Roosevelt football program. This includes all incoming 9th graders who are interested. Players will meet the coaches, learn about the program, and celebrate the upcoming season. Afterwards, we will have a team and family barbecue starting at 6:15 p.m. This will be an opportunity for coaches, players and parents to meet and greet. It is highly encouraged that all parents and families attend.

In June, from the 3rd to the 25th, the team will begin practice preparing for the UPS team camp. We are very lucky to have field lights installed now at Roosevelt High School so practice times will probably be 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. after school but could be subject to change. The exact eleven days can be found on the calendar handout. Only those who have completed all paperwork and paid all fees will be allowed to participate and begin to learn the playbook and prepare for the UPS team camp. We leave to attend camp at University of Puget Sound on June 28th, we will take as many athletes as we can to the four-day football camp, June 28th-July 1st. This is truly a special team bonding experience that is invaluable to the overall team’s growth. It is an excellent team building experience where players receive college level coaching, gain exposure to university coaches, and of course, enjoy all-you- can-eat meals. Last year we had over 60 players attend the team camp and I am hopeful we can exceed this mark.

In order to participate in any full-contact practices and attend the UPS Team Camp, you must complete ALL necessary paperwork and pay all FEES before June 1st. This is never easy and must be attended to meticulously. All necessary paperwork is in this packet. Once completed, it must be returned to the secretaries in the Main Office of Roosevelt High School weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The packet includes a physical form which must be signed by a physician. Please, be prompt and patient while working through this strenuous task. I recommend you complete your paperwork early!

I have included a calendar, a checklist, and a breakdown of the fees involved. Please contact, ____________, our Team Parent Representative, if you have any questions, or visit our website at roughridersfb.org. I look forward to the opportunity to meeting all of you and becoming your coach. GO RIDERS!!!

    Sincerely,

    Ryan Sherlock
